Free Entertainment for the Taking

credit cardGrowing up and living in today’s times is so much different than it was back in the 1950s and 1960s. Today, almost everyone has a fistful of credit cards, a mailbox full of bills, and a medicine cabinet full of headache relievers. Back in the day, no one worked on Sunday or shopped either. It truly was a day of rest. Today, lots of people don’t even know what it means to have nothing to do or know what to do if they do get a day of complete rest and relaxation.

Everyone is wheeling and dealing, vying for time on the computer or gaming system, or browsing the online or brick-and-mortar shops for the latest craze. Isn’t there anything left to do that doesn’t involve stress and money? Of course there is, but it takes a small bit of planning.

Even though some public libraries might be closing due to lack of funding, enough of them remain open and offer incredible possibilities for free entertainment. Unlike fifty or sixty years ago, in addition to books today’s libraries have DVDs and CDs available for borrowing free of charge. Plus, lots of libraries feature reading clubs, chess clubs, and more- all free of charge.

For those who can’t tear themselves away from electronics, libraries also feature free use of computers. This means that anyone who needs to or wants to stop paying for Internet use can still access online information at the local library. Why don’t you visit your public library and see what it has to offer you?
